A message from the Executive Director
When Mary Russell’s grandson suffered a serious injury resulting from child abuse, she
learned there was no place in El Paso where a child could be taken and provided a safe
haven from abuse and neglect.  She motivated herself to make a great change in our
community and find a way to create that safe haven.  After several years of research,
fundraising and much hard work, she, with the help of some close friends, founded the
Child Crisis Center in a small three bedroom house donated by a local church that
provided shelter for up to seven children ages 0 to 5.  That was in 1980.  Today, the Child
Crisis Center of El Paso is a $1.5 million a year non-profit agency that provides emergency
shelter for up to 28 children from infancy to 12 years of age, with additional services aimed
at reducing the incidences of child abuse and neglect in our community.

for general support of the shelter and the backpacks will be provided to children so they
can attend school and carry their books and supplies as any other child can.
