Educate and Advocate
The goal of Teen Talk-Teens Thinking Smart is to provide
science-based comprehensive educational information to teens. This
program provides information for teens to make healthy choices that
will result in lower rates of teen pregnancy and STD/HIV in the
community. Teen Talk-Teens Thinking Smart also addresses
prevention of abuse and violence, which supports our mission in
providing education and prevention services to prevent child abuse
and neglect in our community.

Our program serves at-risk youth ages 16-24 years in El Paso County
and will outreach to 500 youth between November 1, 2011-October
31, 2012.

The Teen Talk Sexuality Education curriculum, a promising practice
program, reduces teen pregnancy and STI/HIV rates by providing
medically accurate information about human development, sexual
health, sexual behavior, and addresses relationships and personal
skills development including personal values clarification,
communication, and decision making.  The curriculum covers a range
of topics such as reproductive anatomy and physiology, gender
orientation, birth control/contraception, communication with parents,
abstinence, abusive relationships, sexual assault, STI/HIV prevention,
and the realities of teen parenting.  It incorporates many different
types of activities and presentation methods to encourage teen
participation.
