The Discovery Shop is a social enterprise of the Child Crisis Center that operates as a resale
thrift store and sells good condition second hand items to the public.  All proceeds from the store
go to funding the Child Crisis Center.  The Thrift Shop is located in the Bradly Center at 4747
Hondo Pass, in Northeast El Paso.

The Discover Shop opened its doors in 1990 by the “Friends of the Child Crisis Center”.  The
store is all volunteer staffed and managed.  It employs only one maintenance person, therefore,
operating costs are very low.  The social enterprise earns yearly revenues in excess of $300,000
and contributes over $250,000 to the Center to help with operating costs.  Since its inception, the
Discovery Shop has raised over $3,000,000 for the Center.  The success of the Discovery Shop
has provided the Child Crisis Center a consistent stream of operating capital and has helped the
Center grow.

The store sells good condition second hand merchandise at bargain prices.  Customers can buy
clothing, jackets, shoes, small appliances, furniture and many other household items.  It is not
uncommon for a customer to enter the store and find very unique or hard to find merchandise
and antiques.  Patrons frequently visit the shop just to see what valuable, but bargain priced
items, they may find on the shelves.  Periodically, customers will find complete golf club sets,
snow skis, collectable dishware and pottery, music LP albums and CD’s, and a large variety of
toys.      

The Discovery Shop will take in all forms of donations.  Shop staff will always prioritize donations
for children, such as clothing and toys, and send these items to the Child Crisis Center to be
used by the children.  All donations that cannot be used by the Center are placed on the shelves
and converted to cash for donation to the Child Crisis Center.  Anyone donating to the Discovery
Shop will be pleased to know that their gift supports a child in crisis.  Donations can be taken at
the Discover Shop or the Child Crisis Center during regular business hours.  To make
arrangements for pick up of larger items, call 757-0506.  

The volunteers of the Discovery Shop and the staff of the Child Crisis Center invite you to visit
the store to support the Child Crisis Center by making a purchase or donating items collected in
your home.  Who knows, you may just find something you’ve been looking for.
