The University of Texas El Paso (UTEP) football player, Ryan
Hotchkiss, became the Child Crisis Center’s first Ambassador,
October 25, 2005. He is UTEP’s star punter. Ryan, a native of
Newport Beach California, is a 210 pound, 6’2”, junior, majoring
in Psychology and Criminal Justice.
Ryan first learned of the Child Crisis Center when he and three
other UTEP football players came to have a tailgate party with
the children at the Center. The kids had a great time playing
and eating pizza with the players and this touched Ryan’s heart.

Ryan had an opportunity to spend some time with several
children who were staying at the center who were homeless
due to Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. “When I saw all the
kids at the center and I learned why they were there, I couldn’t
help but become more involved” said Ryan. “They are such
wonderful kids who need a little positive influence in their lives
and I hope that by getting involved, I can be a positive role
model for them”.
From the first day that Ryan visited the center, he has called
and asked about how the children were doing and what they
were up to. He has taken the children out bowling on two
different occasions and always requests that the children go to
the UTEP games. He promoted and advocated for the Center
by making other players and coaches aware of the Center and
by selling CCC blue wrist bands to his friends. He has vowed
to continue to help the Child Crisis Center and bring more
involvement from UTEP athletes and friends. Ryan is truly an
Ambassador for the Child Crisis Center.

In addition to his involvement at the Center, Ryan keeps
himself involved in the community. He has taken the time to
visit children and elderly at local hospitals, he lead school kids
on a walk for a PTA fundraising event and he wants to become
a Big Brother for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization.
His willingness to participate in community events
demonstrates that Ryan is a true community leader and a
tremendous asset for UTEP and its athletic program.
A Child Crisis Center Ambassador is a title that the Board of Directors extends to local individuals who cannot devote the time necessary to be on the Board, but who wish to participate, promote and advocate the center in the community and who have a passion for making a difference for the children at the Child Crisis Center.
